The Jungle Within is a sonic and visual exploration of the ghosts, desires, and fears of a writer essential to the world that I belong to. The opera focuses on the last moments in the life of Horacio Quiroga at the Clinic Hospital of Buenos Aires where he waits five months for a prostate surgery.
In fleeting states that fluctuate between lucidity and convalescence, delirium and reality, the imagination, remembrances, and desires, the work explores the vertiginous inner jungle of a man who that day decides to leave this world.
Quiroga’s writing does not project the voluptuousness of the jungle with the use of dense rethoric, on the contrary, he reduces it by means of an outstanding austere style limited to esential elements. All its ominous voluptuousness, is presented in the characters of his short stories, in their complexities, their passions, their tragic lives.
